A 37-year-old local resident experienced a sudden, severe headache accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Upon admission to a nearby hospital, it was discovered that she had a ruptured aneurysm in her cranial cavity, leading to significant internal bleeding. Given the nature and location of the aneurysm, the interventional team determined that non-invasive coiling treatment was not feasible. Dr. Castro-Moure promptly performed emergency surgery, placing a clip to repair the affected blood vessel. As of the latest update, she is recovering well in the hospital without any complications.
A vibrant woman from Redding, passionate about crafting intricate decorative ornaments, required significant finger dexterity for her art, especially for painting on egg-shaped objects. Over the years, she progressively lost feeling and movement in her fingers. Despite consulting several doctors, her condition remained unresolved. It was only when she visited a neurologist at Catalyst Medical that she was diagnosed with an advanced compression of the spinal cord in her cervical spine (in her neck). Subsequently, she was referred to Dr. Castro-Moure, who performed a successful operation to alleviate the pressure on her spinal cord. In her latest interaction, she speaks to Dr. Castro-Moure about the improved mobility she experienced post-surgery
This mother of three beautiful children, and member of the community in Shasta county, narrates her journey regarding her recovery over a somewhat perilous and chronic ailment causing significant pain to her back. Honestly, she does a much better job explaining her story than any short synopsis we could write, and Dr. Castro-Moure is always overjoyed and exceedingly proud to help patients such as herself.
Another treasured local from the Redding area, he explains perfectly and succinctly what brought him in and what needed fixing.
A gentleman was involved in a high-speed head-on collision while in a smaller, less robust car compared to the opposing vehicle. He sustained severe injuries, including multiple thoracic spine fractures, endangering his spinal cord and placing him at imminent risk of paralysis. Dr. Castro-Moure, in collaboration with the trauma team, worked tirelessly to ensure his recovery. He expertly stabilized his spine; the attached CT scans highlight the vertebral breaks. Through emergency surgery, Dr. Castro-Moure reattached the spine's fragmented segments. Given that the spine was divided into two main sections, the threat of paralysis loomed large. Remarkably, as seen in the video, the gentleman was walking just under a month post-accident, on his path to a full recovery.

A man, tragically paralyzed after a one hundred foot tree fell on him, shattering his T11 vertebra, was quickly treated by the trauma services and by Dr. Castro-Moure. The attached CT scan vividly depicts the extent of the damage. Without hesitation, Dr. Castro-Moure and immediately operated. The path to recovery was long and arduous due to the grievous nature of the injuries. Today, with some assistance, the gentleman walks, albeit with balance issues, but impressively retains sensation in all limbs and maintains control over bodily functions. While he may never fully return to his former state, just his ability to walk, given the severity of spinal cord damage, was nearly miraculous. Dr. Castro-Moure later remarked on the rarity and astonishment of such a remarkable recovery given how bleak the man’s situation looked at the beginning.
While thwarting a car theft near a Shasta park, a brave man was assaulted and subsequently shot in the head. The bullet, lodged in his brain, led to significant tissue damage and swelling that endangered his cerebral circulation and brought him dangerously close to brain death. In a crucial intervention, Dr. Castro-Moure and his team surgically removed the left side of his skull, permitting the brain to safely expand without hindering blood flow. Following an extended recovery in the ICU and a subsequent skull replacement, the man eloquently shares his experience in the attached video. Interestingly, since speech is primarily located in the left brain hemisphere, his clear articulation was not only a joy but also a significant milestone for Dr. Castro-Moure to witness.
